And they forsook the Lord, and served Baal and Ashtaroth.
Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,
For this cause the people also met him, for that they heard that he had done this miracle.
But though he had done so many miracles before them, yet they believed not on him:
For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even this solemn meeting.
And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide mine eyes from you: yea, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear:
Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them.
to one that is learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I cannot; for it is sealed: And the book is delivered to him that is not learned, saying, Read this, I pray thee: and he saith, I am not learned. Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men
